Citizens Defending Libraries and others including a renowned group of scholars have filed a lawsuit today against the NYPL to protect against the destruction of the research stacks and halt the consolidating shrinkage of the NYPL's Central Library plan.
The New York Times has first coverage of the lawsuit here:

As the press release makes clear this is not the same lawsuit brought at the beginning of the week (which we support). Our initial results have already been good. Accordingly, people who want to to go to the court hearing tomorrow can do so, but we are not mustering forces. (Any updated information we have about the time and location of the court appearance, if any, will go into the CDL calendar on the CDL web pages.)
We are joining Public Advocate and mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio in a press conference on Friday morning at 10:30 AM on the steps of the Central Reference Library at 42nd St. where he will announce his opposition to the rushed and unexamined Central Library Plan and the sale of the Brooklyn Heights Library. He has also opposed the sale of the Pacific Branch library.
Please make it a priority to attend the Friday morning De Blasio event. It is very important to show our support at moments like these so that our public officials and candidates for public office understand the power and importance of the issues surrounding the proposed library sales and shrinkage of the library system. And we want to hear what Mr. de Blasio has to say.
It's late notice, but the more people we have the more powerful the library issues will be. Please be there and encourage others to accompany you. Thank you for your courage and support. Carolyn McIntyre

Note: From Suzannah B. Troy :
Reminder Mike Bloomberg is a mega-billionaire who is responsible for billions of dollars historic abuse (CityTime and even bigger 911 Tech corruption short list 3 billion right there) and waste of tax payer dollars and Mike Bloomberg who does not care about violence unless it involves guns like Dr. Andrew Fagelman's faux chic office Soho First Precinct fixing violent assault by Delita Hooks who told me after I asked would you consider paper cups rather than styrofoam it is better for the environment Delita Hooks screamed at me I have no rights who am I and than followed me menacing as I sought help from my MD already in with another patient and than got between me and the door to violently give me the finger provoking me to start filming to document and than two sets of corrupt NYPD Detectives (do I have to say in my opinion or is this video enough?) fixed this for Delita Hooks and Dr. Fagelman despite overwhelming evidence and their refusal to meet with me as if I was a Jew in the early stages of Nazi Germany but my violent attacker got a courtesy call from the NYPD to listen to all her lies and support her false cross complaint...my point is Mike Bloomberg is fraud who could easily bail-out our libraries and spend a fortune on gun control when NYC is filling with over the top violence no guns required and he and the NYPD are fully aware of NYPD fixing crimes as was done to me!!!!!!!
Mike backed the NYPD burning the Occupy Wall Street Library so Fahrenheit 451 --- how do these people live with themselves? For Mike it is his billions and meglomanical massage and for corrupt Internal Affairs officers who claim my case is still open and corrupt NYPD it is their pensions; they do not have hearts or souls but they have their pensions....
A library is a safe haven as much as a resource in this corrupt city.
